“We saw the most extraordinary garden in the world … in short quite a fairyland” (Cecilia Ridley, 1839).

Visit the Swiss Garden at Shuttleworth on Sunday 16th July 2017 and enjoy a magnificent Regency Garden Party which will recreate the fairy-tale and celebrate Lord Ongley’s Swiss Garden, which was created in the 1820’s in the Swiss Picturesque style.

Visitors can enjoy a display of Regency dances and join in with several dance sessions taking place throughout the afternoon as well as experience displays of short scenes from Jane Austen novels which will be performed by local drama group ‘The Potton Players’. A quartet of musicians will be playing authentic instruments to perform a selection of Regency music to give the whole garden a party atmosphere. Families can enjoy a game of croquet on the Swiss Cottage lawn, listen to our regency storyteller and make Regency themed items in our craft area. Visitors are encouraged to come in Regency style dress!

Refreshments will be available to purchase in the Garden Room within the Swiss Garden throughout the event. Alternatively, visitors can pre book a fabulous afternoon tea to be served in the Restaurant or order a hamper to enjoy in the garden itself. Please contact Sally.clark@shuttleworth.org for more details.

A full list of activities will be released closer to the event date.
